Attention Medical Professionals : If you have a patient with a humeral fracture then this information will justify the reasons for getting this orthopedic brace for your patients can help.

1.) Starting With The Basics

Humeral fracture braces are often times used after an individual has sustained a fracture. Why? – These supports can be very effective in helping to promote healing, because of the soft tissue compression they provide around a fracture site. Often times these braces are prefabricated in design and can fit many people very well, but in certain cases these supports need to be custom fabricated for longer arms or abnormally shaped limbs.

2.) Design

Typically, these braces are meant to be the length of the humerus. When the fracture is lower on the humerus, around the elbow joint.a hinged extension may be included down to the forearm (or even down to the hand if there are concerns about rotation). Extensions of these kinds are possible to include, but they are not probable.

When we are focusing on the traditional humeral fracture braces, you will see that there is a bivalve design that extends the length of the humerus and may include a shoulder cuff. Many people will refer to these orthoses as Sarmiento braces. Some medical professionals and patients call it a “clam shell” with respect to the design. – Basically, what they are referring to is that the brace is a two piece design that comes together to form something very similar to a “cylinder” around the arm. This helps to provide compression and in this way the patient can feel more secure with the support this brace provides. Patients can also feel more pain free when these braces are provided. This can be a welcome relief after someone has increased pain and a sense of insecurity after a fracture has been sustained.

3.) Swelling

When patients break their humerus, they may quickly notice that their arm is more swollen. Typically, this type of swelling is not a permanent condition. This swelling will reduce within a few short weeks usually and the patient will need to monitor how their brace fits after their arm has reduced in circumference. These braces need to be worn snug at all times or their effectiveness reduces dramatically. In addition, a patient will need to monitor their skin, as a proactive precautionary measure. These braces typically do not harm a person at all, in fact they are meant to help. However, if there are any issues, you need to consult the providing orthopedic brace company.
